Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika & Edgars Genova.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Edgars and I started Our Tale As Old As Time to share our love of travel. We wanted to create a platform where we share our favorite places and things to do at those places. So often when at a new place we are on social media trying to find hidden gems of the area and Our Tale As Old As Time was a way for us to showcase our adventures and favorite finds whether it be a cool hotel, restaurant, or locations.
When Edgars and I started dating eight years ago we tried to at least go to two new places every year. Edgars is from Latvia and I am from New York during the course of our relationship we have seen so many places together. Most new for both of us, but of course, we shared our favorites with one another too. Our adventures started together in Washington D.C., and we have traveled to California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Turks and Caicos, and Latvia together. The pandemic has slowed down our traveling a bit, but we have a wide variety of experiences we still want to share with our audience. We always try to explore somewhere new, but our hearts always bring us back to Tennessee. So much so that we’ve been there twice this year and already have another week-long vacation planned for the spring with some of our friends.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Beginning Our Tale As Old As Time has been relatively smooth, but not without some challenges. I have a background in social media and communications, which has helped us on the Instagram front. We also love to travel and share our experiences so it’s not work it’s more of “this has been really fun and we want other people to enjoy themselves the way we did.”
The most challenging thing for Edgars and I is to venture on to YouTube. We’ve experimented with videos but we don’t feel it is up to par with what we want to share with our audience just yet. We are hoping to expand more into that this year. The pandemic is for sure one of our main struggles as we can’t travel to many of the places we would like to. Fingers (and toes) crossed that 2022 brings more of a sense of normalcy for travel.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our Tale As Old As Time is definitely a priority of ours, but it is also our side hustle. Edgars is a general contractor, with a specialty in carpentry. If you’re interested you can see his work on Instagram @rosecarpentry_usa. I am a Desktop Publisher/Designer for Simon & Schuster, where I get to design the interior of books and ensure all necessary corrections are made. In regards to Our Tale As Old As Time Edgars and I would classify ourselves as travel and lifestyle bloggers. From our first post, we made a pact to be real with our audience. If we love something you’re going to know and if we aren’t feeling something we’re going to let you know. That goes for our traveling as well as our latest adventure of wedding planning. We pride ourselves on being honest especially in a time where social media can mask that. I for one used to be on social media and wonder how so many people’s lives looked so perfect. Then when we started Our Tale As Old As Time we realized how quickly things can look like that. On Our Tale As Old As Time, we share our favorite memories of places, but when you view our Instagram stories you’ll get to see more of real life and that is something we want to continue.
